IAN DONALD INTER-UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF MEDICAL ULTRASOUND
Dubrovnik, 30 October 2009

Ian Donald Inter-University Ultrasound School is established in honor of Professor Ian Donald for his historic and revolutionary achievement in ultrasound practice. The school aims to provide and to promote science and art of medical ultrasound scanning in obstetrics and gynecology worldwide.

The first Ian Donald Inter-University Ultrasound School was established in 1981 in Croatia, advocated and founded by Professor Asim Kurjak. So far the number of Ian Donald Inter-university Ultrasound School around the globe has been increased to 42, and together offer continuous training programs and facilitates the dissemination of information in ultrasound diagnosis in obstetrics and gynecology.

The Ian Donald School is designed to address the needs of a clinician who has some experience in diagnostic ultrasound, but needs additional knowledge and practice in recent sonographic developments in both obstetrics and gynecology. In most developed countries, medical ultrasound diagnosis becomes a common practice in obstetrics and gynecology, particularly for challenging cases such as identification of fetal abnormality or ectopic pregnancy. Health-care institutions are widely equipped with ultrasound diagnosis apparatus, while the knowledge and the skills necessary for implementing are under-developed. The improvement of level of ultrasonic diagnosis will certainly reduce the maternal mortality and infant mortality, and consequently save lives of million.
